Rainy Day Ideas in Carlow

Depending on your children's ages and interests, there are lots of things to do in Carlow when the rain pours down!

  • Visit your local library.  All libraries in the county have a junior section.  Great for a rainy afternoon - go and read with the children or take part in many of the free events and activities that take place.  Check out library opening times before you make plans.
  • Do some shopping at the Fairgreen or Carlow Shopping Centres where you can also get a bite to eat at one of the cafés.
  • Take the family bowling at Glow in the Dark Bowling in the Dome Family Entertainment CentreThe Dome offers 10pin bowling on 12 state of the art lanes which can be enjoyed by kids and adults. Bumpers and ramps are available for kids to play. Refreshments are also available.
  • Visit one of Carlow's playcentres located in Bagnelstown, Carlow town or Graiguecullen. Parents can enjoy a coffee while the kids run off some steam.
  • Take in a movie at the Carlow Omniplex (Fairgreen Shopping Centre, Carlow). There is a kids' club with discounted rates at 12 noon on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Go swimming at Graiguecullen Swimming Pool, a  a 25m deck-level heated Swimming Pool with a spacious Toddler Pool and viewing area for parents.                                .
  • Take part in The Chocolate Garden interactive workshops and learn how delicious chocolates & ice cream are made or have a go yourself!
  • Carlow County Museum will re-open this spring after an upgrade by Carlow Town Council and Carlow County Council in association with the Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society.
  • Enjoy a stroll indoors around Rathwood shops or take a tour on their road train.
  • Wander around the exhibitions or take in a show at the Visual Centre for Contemporary Art and George Bernard Shaw Theatre
  • Visit your local bookstore and treat the kids to a new book.  Spend time browsing for that special book and go home and read it together.
  • Put on the raingear and wellies and go for a walk in the rain.  Most kids love splashing in puddles, and sometimes it's a great way to release pent-up energy from being cooped up inside.  You can always warm up afterwards with dry clothes and hot chocolate.
  • Lastly, if you cannot leave the house, look for ideas in our ‘what to do on a Rainy day section.  You are guaranteed to find something to keep the kids entertained whilst stuck indoors!

If you have a favourite rainy day activity or place to go in Carlow, let me know and we'll add it in!
